The Northern Lights are one of the most wonderful natural phenomena in the universe. It is related to  solar activity  and the composition of the earth’s   atmosphere. It forms in a circular manner at the poles of the earth. This miracle of nature  captivates people who have the joy of witnessing them in the regions of the northern hemisphere, where they are called the Northern Lights and in the southern hemisphere they are called aurora australes, the only places on earth where you can appreciate these beautiful spectacles.

The options to see them are between  September 21 and March 21 at the end of Autumn and Winter. Theoretically you can appreciate this captivating phenomenon well, throughout  Norway, Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Iceland.  In some northern cities you can see them in all their splendor, for approximately 200 days; for example in the city of Fairbanks, Alaska.

It is recommended to avoid seeing them when there is a full moon or on very bright days because they cannot be appreciated because these magical moments are attenuated. Another recommendation is to be very warm from the intense cold that is felt.

This natural phenomenon is so wonderful that over the thousands of years numerous legends have been created that adorn the oral tradition of their countries with this color that they make available to us the universe. For example in  Finland,this phenomenon known as ‘revontulet’, associates the aurora with a fox that runs through the far north touching with its tail the mountains, inducing sparks that become lights in the sky.  In  Estonia,whales with their water jets were said to provoke this wonderful play of lights every time the whale came out and expelled the sea water from its body.  In  Greenland  the oral tradition argued that the souls of the dead when going up when climbing provoked these paintings in the sky.  In  Poland the Northern Lights were the omen of war, and there was a lot of fear of them.
