Taking your pet on a trip is one less concern knowing if the caregiver will treat it as well as you do.   In addition to being quiet it is fun;  but keep in mind that cars and planes are not designed to travel alongside them. Therefore if you want even more rest and serenity you must follow some tips that I have put into practice and that work very well, but first of all make sure that the place where you are going to stay is allowed to take our pet.

Sometimes it gives us some sadness when we introduce our pet in one of them, but it is the safest way to travel, having the certainty that they will not leave there and that they are comfortable there.   So make sure that your pet especially your dog exercises, so that he spends his energies before being sent to this cage and thus be tired and rest easy.    Before forcibly introducing our pet to the cage, show him the door and induce him to enter there.   You must take into account that the pet can be standing if he wants it inside it, as well as make turns and lie down so that he does not feel uncomfortable, likewise he must have ventilation on the sides and have a waterproof and absorbent material on the ground.  Do not put your pet in collars or objects with which he can hurt or strangle himself.

DO NOT FEED YOUR PET 2 HOURS BEFORE THE TRIP

Not feeding your pet before the trip will prevent her from feeling dizzy and vomiting.   It is best that your stomach and bladder are empty to avoid setbacks. However, we must not lose sight of the hydration that should be given to pets.  Supply them with water or a drinking fountain if the trip is long.

SUPPLY A SEDATIVE

If your pet is too anxious or is groggy and scared, the best alternative is a sedative that your trusted veterinarian can recommend  .  The best thing is that he gives us the indications of the schedules to apply the same and the time of the meal.   It is important never to medicate it but consult the veterinarian because these drugs can bring problems to pets, for example if you fly by plane due to the height the risk of heart and respiratory problems is increased, especially in those cats and dogs that have short noses.

IF YOUR TRIP IS A CAR

If the trip is by road, be sure to make short stops every two to three hours, so that the pet rests.     Remember that it is forbidden for the safety of those who travel with you as well as yours and that of your pet, that they travel in the lap of the driver or near them, as well as on the floor of the vehicle that can be of high danger, since they can get under the accelerator or brake pedals.     Do not allow the pet to travel with its head outside the window because in addition to being dangerous, it can cause injuries or infections in the nose, eyes and mouth with particles such as dust.

BRING THEM A STUFFED TOY OR BLANKET

Pets are given peace of mind when given any object that is familiar to them or to their liking. In addition to being happy next to your toy, they will feel more confident.

MASSAGE THEM

A good massage with lavender from the spine to the base of the head, can provide them with peace of mind, relief and confidence.  This way we balance them mentally and they will be good travel companions.

Now that we have some tips to travel with our pet, we just have to enjoy and make them see that their world is bigger than the place of residence or the park we have close to home;  A pet is a member of our family and they also deserve a fair and well-deserved vacation.
